2021 was another record year for occupier sales of owned real estate across a wide range of geographies and sectors in the EMEA region, with corporates raising €29.2 billion across more than 670 disposals.
This report provides a breakdown of disposals by asset types and geographies, as well as a high-level review of the context for this activity. It shows that disposals of owned properties remain an attractive and viable route to raising capital, and provide occupiers with considerable operational flexibility.
During our recent engagements with corporates, we have seen the increasing influence of ESG factors and the adoption of hybrid working patterns drive occupiers to divest of older office buildings that are now too big for their occupational needs, or too energy inefficient to support their sustainability goals.
